15–20 minutesSkill practiceCommunicationPairsIn personVirtualHybrid
What is this activity?
Hear your own speaking style, identify an improvement and compare two recordings.
Preparation
Ask participants to have a phone with a voice recorder. Provide a speaking prompt or invite a real work message; allow private listening.
How to run it
- 1Choose a message or short explanation to deliver.
- 2Record yourself speaking naturally for one to two minutes.
- 3Listen back and notice clarity, pace, tone and filler words.
- 4Choose one improvement and rehearse it.
- 5Record a second version and compare the difference.
Example in Action
Ask participants to take out their phones and record themselves explaining a recent project or idea for 60 seconds. They listen back through headphones and notice their pace, clarity, filler words and tone. After choosing one thing to improve, they record themselves again and compare the difference.
