What is this activity?
Make decisions as a fictional scenario unfolds through successive pieces of information.
Preparation
Prepare a scenario in three or four instalments. Each instalment should introduce a new fact or complication; prepare a decision prompt for each stage.
How to run it
- 1Reveal only the opening situation and ask groups what they would do.
- 2Have groups explain and record their initial decision.
- 3Release the next piece of information, changing the circumstances.
- 4Ask groups whether they would keep or revise their decision and why.
- 5Repeat with further reveals, then debrief how new information changed their thinking.
Example in Action
A fictional company is considering introducing a four-day working week. Initially, participants receive information suggesting productivity could improve. They make a recommendation. Then reveal that customers expect five-day support. Groups reconsider their decision. Finally, reveal that a competitor has successfully introduced flexible working. Ask whether their recommendation changes again and why.
