What is this activity?
Help someone compare options using the criteria that matter most to them.
Preparation
Provide a blank 2×2 or 4×4 comparison grid. Ask participants to choose a real or fictional decision involving at least two options.
How to run it
- 1Identify two or more options the decision-maker is considering.
- 2List at least two important decision criteria.
- 3Populate a comparison grid showing how each option meets the criteria.
- 4Practise introducing and talking through the grid with a partner, focusing on words and tone.
- 5Discuss how the grid can support a balanced decision rather than push a predetermined answer.
Example in Action
You're teaching people how to help others make decisions. Give participants a fictional customer choosing between three options for a new service. The customer cares about price, reliability and ease of use. Participants create a simple comparison grid showing how each option performs against those criteria, then practise explaining the choices without pushing the customer towards a particular answer.
