The Business Clinic

20–30 minutes per challengeProblem-solvingSmall groupsIn personVirtualHybrid

What is this activity?

Participants bring a real challenge and help one another diagnose its causes and identify concrete actions.

Preparation

Arrange groups of 4–6. Ask participants to bring a current work challenge. Optionally provide a clinic worksheet.

How to run it

  1. 1One person describes their challenge in two minutes.
  2. 2The others ask diagnostic questions before offering advice.
  3. 3The group identifies possible root causes.
  4. 4Brainstorm practical responses and agree on two actions.
  5. 5Rotate to the next participant.

Example in Action

Ask participants to bring a real challenge into the clinic. A clinic is a format designed to help people tackle real problems together. For example, someone is struggling to get colleagues to adopt a new process. They explain the challenge to a small group, who spend the first few minutes asking questions rather than giving advice. The group identifies possible causes and suggests two practical actions the participant could try next week.
