15–20 minutesDiscussion & reflectionSmall groupsIn personVirtualHybrid
What is this activity?
Use a short reading to generate practical insights through group discussion.
Preparation
Select 3–5 short, accessible extracts; print or share one per group.
How to run it
- 1Divide into groups of 3–5 and assign an extract.
- 2Ask participants to read and agree on the central message.
- 3Generate two actionable tips.
- 4Share the tips and discuss how to apply them.
Example in Action
Select a book related to your workshop topic. For example, Surrounded by Idiots, which explores human behaviour and communication. Give each group a copy, with a bookmark marking a different passage. Ask participants to read their extract, discuss what it reveals about human behaviour and share two practical tips their colleagues could use tomorrow.
Make it your own
Adapt the topic, scenario or materials to suit your audience.
